Nicotine Gel, New Hazard to Health

Scientists will have to watch out for nicotine gel, an alternative cigarette that seems to attract smokers and attack their health. This alternative cigarette gives smokers the experience to have a cigarette within 30 seconds. The nicotine gel is as a solution to people who feel the urge to smoke in smoking-free places.

Anti-smoking researchers explained that this new product was not studied for to confirm that it is really safe to use it. That’s why it is not a certified quit-smoking product yet. However, the nicotine gel is already available at more than 400 retail shops in Malaysia. Despite its ban in Thailand, the product has the chance to find its way to Thai smokers via Internet advertisements.

"So, we need to study the product movement closely," said anti-smoking researchers. They added that the nicotine gel could make people take in too much nicotine before they realize it. Researchers pointed out that the new alternative cigarettes have possible side-effects, such as: high blood pressure and faster heartbeat rate. By the way, such side-effects could be dangerous in people who have underlying diseases.

The nicotine-gel manufacturer had planned to introduce their new product in Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, Hong Kong, China, India, Brunei, Australia, New Zealand and Vietnam.

In Thailand, the sale of electronic cigarettes was banned. Made of blameless steel, the e-cigarette has a chamber for storing liquid nicotine in various concentrations and it is powered by a rechargeable battery and resembles a real cigarette. And smokers puff on it as they would a real cigarette, but they do not light it as a real cigarette, and it produces no smoke. Rather, it produces a fine, heated haze, which is absorbed into the lungs.

Unlike anti-smoking researchers, tobacco companies often market electronic cigarettes as a healthier alternative to tobacco smoking. However, the World Health Organization last year issued a warning it does not consider the electronic cigarette to be a legitimate smoking cessation aid. WHO added, that it had no scientific evidence which confirm that this product is safe and efficient.
